Brentwood Council Leader’s Grit and Determination

Thursday, 24 January, 2013

The Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, Cllr Louise McKinlay, has shown her grit and determination during the snowy weather by helping deliver bags of grit to residents in her ward.

“Residents have complained in recent years that although the main highways and bus routes are gritted by Essex County Council, footpaths and treacherous bits of sloping minor roads are not,” explained Cllr McKinlay, the Conservative ward member for Hutton North. “Brentwood Borough Council decided the best way of helping was to give sacks of grit to interested groups and individuals, who then organise the clearing and gritting of slippery paths.”

Cllr McKinlay added, “We have had an excellent response to this, and I believe it is showing the Big Society in action through people’s community spirit. I like to think it also shows how Brentwood’s caring councillors are prepared to get their hands dirty and help their residents when and where it really matters.”
