The Leader of Brentwood’s Liberal Democrat group, Cllr David Kendall, has refused to take part in a monthly Leaders’ Meeting with Cllr Louise McKinlay and Labour group leader, Cllr Mike le Surf, after disagreeing with Conservative policy.
“I would be happy to discuss his concerns at the Leaders’ meeting tonight,” said Cllr McKinlay. “The meeting is intended to allow the leaders of the three political groups on Brentwood Borough Council to have sensible conversations about political and personnel issues affecting all parties. Some of this information is sensitive and it would be inappropriate to ask the Council’s Managing Director to impart it, as Cllr Kendall has requested.”
Cllr Kendall, has previously claimed the Conservative administration was not keeping him informed, and told the Council Leader he did not agree with some of the administration’s actions.
Councillor McKinlay added:
“I accept that Cllr Kendall’s job at Opposition Leader is to challenge the administrations actions. However, I believe Cllr Kendall has a responsibility to his residents, councillors and party to keep abreast of matters affecting the Council and its business, and I am disappointed he has chosen to refuse to attend tonight’s meeting.”
