We are delighted to announce our Essex County Council Candidates for the election on 2nd May 2013. Here are some of the main reasons to vote for Essex Conservatives:
Economy - We will work tirelessly to keep Essex as an economic powerhouse ensuring more jobs are created and local business supported.
Council Tax - We have kept our promise and frozen Council Tax for three years running. We have an excellent record in delivering first class services and not wasting your money.
EU - The Conservatives are the only national party to offer you a referendum on the future of the EU and the only party in Essex to call on Brussels to cut its spending.
Highways and Safety - Getting our roads fixed is our top priority and we have pledged an additional £35 million over the next two years for our highways. We will continue to reduce accidents on our roads.
Education - We believe every child should have a world class education and we will do our utmost to achieve this.
Brentwood Hutton – Roger Hirst
· Financial analyst who lives with his family in Hutton
· Deputy Leader of the Borough Council and trustee of Brentwood Leisure Centre
I am very pleased to have been selected to stand as the Conservative candidate for the County Council division of Brentwood Hutton. John Roberts, I am sure you will agree, has represented you well for the last 16 years. I am determined to work hard for you, if elected to succeed him, and believe I have established a strong track record in the work I have been doing at Borough level: we have made savings of over £5m in recent years, while investing in front-line services, introducing food waste recycling, and reducing council tax. It will be my goal to be a strong voice for you at County on key local issues. On Crossrail we need to win the best possible outcome for the terminus, and keep disruption during the construction phase to a minimum. To improve road safety we must reduce speeding, especially on Hanging Hill Lane. It will also be my aim to cooperate with local community groups and ward councillors to ensure the Hutton Community Centre is brought back into use quickly and so as to provide what local residents want. There is work I can do to improve Flood Prevention measures in West Horndon, acting together with the Environment Agency and the Parish Council as well as County and Borough Council. A vote for the Conservatives on Thursday 2 May will be a vote for someone who gets things done and makes a difference on your behalf.
Brentwood Rural – Ann Naylor
· Retired doctor in South Essex and resident in Ingatestone for over 20 years
· Well placed to help to continue to deliver safe and efficient health and social care service
I am delighted to have been reselected as your Conservative Candidate for the County Council elections on Thursday 2 May 2013.
I have been your County Councillor for almost 6 years and I promise to continue to work tirelessly to ensure that I always put YOU first! Your priorities are my priorities and I will make sure that your voice is heard. You may live in Ingatestone and Fryerning, or in the non-parished area of South Weald or the other parishes of Blackmore, Hook End and Wyatts Green, Doddinghurst,Stondon Massey, Mountnessing, Navestock or Kelvedon Hatch – wherever you live I will support you and your Parish Councils.
At present in the County Council, I am the Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing and my past life, pre-retirement as a doctor is relevant and useful. I am responsible for all the health issues in the County Council. I spend a lot of time working with doctors, nurses, social workers, etc planning how best services can be delivered. Public Health with its wide sweep has recently come back into the County Council and we now have much closer relationships with the GPs in Clinical Commissioning Groups, with Mental Health in hospitals and in the community for people of all ages. We have an ageing population and more is constantly expected in terms of the delivery of safe care, but from cradle to grave I am involved in your healthcare.
Please use your vote on Thursday, 2nd May for me your Conservative Candidate for Brentwood Rural ANN NAYLOR.
• Keep the County share of the Council Tax at 0% until the next election due to our excellent financial management.
• Strengthen the economy by reversing the years of decline under Labour, getting a grip on our budgetary deficit and working with business to create jobs.
• Campaign to reduce the UK’s payments to the EU and hold an In/Out referendum after the next General Election.
• Maintain and increase high levels of investment in our roads and footpaths.
• Continue to invest in education for children, young people and older people so that they can deliver their potential through local employment opportunities or elsewhere.
• Safeguard and support vulnerable people of all ages – particularly children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
• Deliver first rate services, protected from cuts, to those in need, in social care and health by working together.
• Reduce costs and help the environment by making it easier for more people to recycle their waste.
• Use an additional £35 million pounds to repair highways and strengthen roads, and to reduce the numbers killed or seriously injured on our roads.
• Endeavour to continue to make Essex a vibrant place where it is a pleasure to live and to enjoy the beauties of the county.
Brentwood South – Keith Parker
· Local businessman and long standing resident
· Will work hard on behalf of Brentwood residents
I feel privileged to have been selected as a Conservative candidate for the County Elections on the 2nd May 2013. I have been a Borough Councillor for Brentwood for the last 6 years and have been fortunate to have been able to work on a number of important issues for residents such as: Health, Housing, Planning, Highways and Parking.
Over the past years I have worked closely with your local Conservative Ward Councillors. I believe I know the Wards covered by the County South Division well and the needs of the residents. I am known as a bold and outspoken Councillor and strongly believe in the values that you, the residents, require in this very special area of Brentwood. As a local Councillor, I have been able to work closely with the Conservative Administration to keep and prioritise our frontline services, reduce Council Tax and make savings on Council Expenditure. If elected, I can help carry out these pledges and carry the same messages on your behalf to County.
I have lived in Brentwood for nearly 20 years and run my Blacksmith and Fabrication business in the Borough. I believe passionately about the wonderful area we live in and the values we all share and want to maintain. I promise, that if elected, I will be a strong voice on your behalf at County.
Council Tax - Essex and Brentwood Councils are in the forefront in supporting the Government drive to lower Council Tax. It is Conservative policy that we should move to lower taxation and allow the public to keep more of their hard earned money in their pockets.
Clean & Green - As a Conservative I believe strongly in the green belt, tidy and clean streets and support the strong recycling programmes set by the Borough and County Councils.
EU - Only the Conservatives in Essex have called for a cut in the EU budget and that no more of our money is given to Brussels. We also support a Referendum on our future involvement.
Taking Decisive Action on Potholes - Essex County Council has pledged a further £35 in road repairs over two years. So far this financial year, over 55,000 defects have been fixed, with another 4200 inspected and scheduled for repair shortly. Up to 44 specialist gangs are currently working across the county, focusing specifically on pothole repairs. Additional crews will also be mobilised when weather improves to carry out repairs.
Local Community - With local Conservative Ward Councillors, I have already been heavily involved with local issues and projects: The Community Print and the Royal British Legion Youth Band in Warley, planting flower beds in Brentwood South at some of our retirement cottages, and pledging support for a local playground. All these endeavours and similar projects are all very typical of the local issues that I and other Conservative Councillors put high on our list of priorities. It is only by working closely with local residents that, if elected, I believe I can take your views and concerns forward to County.
Brentwood north – Chris Hossack
· Brentwood resident for 26 years with children in Brentwood Schools
· Automotive professional who works for Brentwood based motor manufacturer
· 10 years as Borough Councillor with a breadth of experience and reputation for hard work
· Founded a Residents Association, Hutton Speedwatch, local Neighbourhood Watch group, and a community group
Should I be elected as a County Councillor in May, I will continue to be one of the most proactive Councillors in Brentwood. Already, I have been working with decision makers at County Hall to get things done in Brentwood that seem to have been over-looked by the existing Liberal Democrat County Councillors.
Furthermore, aside from my local priorities, I am in favour of a referendum on our EU Membership, I believe in controlling immigration, I oppose drug legalisation and I have strong views on Law and Order.
My priorities for Brentwood:
• To ensure that County resources and processes for maintaining the roads within Brentwood are fully utilised.
• As a Hatch Road resident, I use the Ongar Road/Sandpit Lane junction several times daily. It is clear that improvements need to be made. I will seek a clear answer on this, can it be done or not? At least we deserve some clarity on the issue, but will continue to seek improvements.
• I will continue to press for activities and facilities to engage young people. ‘Nothing to do’ is not an excuse that I believe can be used in Brentwood, but I will fight to ensure that activities are accessible and affordable to all.
• I will continue to press for re-development in our Town Centre that ensures its sustainability. I want to see a new Cinema, supermarket and department store in our town.
• I believe that the Crossrail project will bring huge benefits to Brentwood and Shenfield. However, as with the Town Centre development, good communication and carefully managed implementation of the project will be vital to enable residents to go about their business with minimum disruption during this time.
