Hutton Conservatives are delighted that funding has been approved for the renovation works of Hutton Community Centre, on Wash Road.
The announcement comes after Conservative councillors voted to approve a tender by Novus Property of just over £121k. The money will see the necessary works carried out within the original £165k earmarked budget, making the building fit for purpose and placing it once again at the heart of the community.
Hutton North councillor and Leader of Brentwood Council, Louise McKinlay said "This is the next step in the project that will see the community centre open its doors once again to the people of Hutton. There is both a need and a desire locally for a facility that can be used by all. We already have a strong commitment from local residents, some of whom are on the working party. This is a much needed project with an exciting future."
Over the past few months, residents, sports clubs and community organisations have come together with the Council to deliver a vision for the Centre and draft plans to make it happen.
Neighbouring Hutton East ward councillor, Chris Hossack said: " We are lucky to have such hardworking volunteers who are so determined to see the Community Centre become a reality. With the works now approved, we can get on with supporting those involved in the production of a more detailed budget plan, which will see the Centre become self sufficient, whilst ensuring all groups in the community are given a chance to use the facilities. The future is looking very exciting."
Work is expected to start in the new year with weather permitting, April 2014, the anticipated end date.
