Conservative Councillors and local campaigners have welcomed the news that safety works to the notorious Devil’s Head Crossing in Warley are set to start this week.
Brentwood Council Leader, Louise McKinlay, who is also Cabinet Member for Finance at Essex County Council has ensured both the funding and land acquisition requirements between the two authorities have been resolved, meaning the works can begin.
The news follows many years of campaigning for safety improvements at the junction and work is set to continue until the end of the year, with the first phase involving the removal of some trees to improve sight lines.
Widening works will also be carried out to provide a refuge for those turning right. In addition, new signage and lining will be put in place and these will support a revised 40mph speed limit.
Commenting on the news, Louise McKinlay said "This is great news and will be welcomed by residents across Brentwood. Only last week there was another accident. Whilst some practical and technical issues remain, it is good to see work get underway. After years of campaigning by many people, I am pleased that through my County Council role, I have managed to secure the necessary funding for the works. Locally, Brentwood Council has helped to resolve land ownership issues, meaning the green light has been given for works to start. This joined up working has delivered a great result for Warley. “
