Funding has been agreed for the creation of extra parking bays in Hutton Drive.
The move follows a request and meetings with residents, concerned about the lack of parking in the area.
Hutton Central councillor, John Kerslake, who led on the scheme, said, "I've been lobbying for the funds for some time and I'm pleased the money is now there for extra spaces to be installed. Currently, parking is very limited and residents are having to leave their cars some distance from their homes, often whilst carrying heavy shopping."
At last Wednesday's budget meeting, Conservative Councillors agreed to fund the extra spaces. The decision was opposed by opposition Councillors.
Work will now start to draw up detailed plans and it is proposed that the spaces will be in place later this year, once the weather is drier.
